As I write this post, it’s only a few minutes from kick-off of the wonderful in-state football rivalry between the Clemson University Tigers and the University of South Carolina (USC) Gamecocks. As a Clemson graduate, I received a number of comments about me becoming a Gamecock now that I was attending the USC School of Medicine Greenville. Of course that didn’t sit well with me! But as I have spent a number of months now surrounded by Clemson and USC graduates as well as graduates from many of the other in-state and out-of-state schools, I am extremely grateful for the relationships I have formed with everyone in my med school class. It is easy for us all to get caught up in the excitement of sports, but I am always reminded of how blessed we all are to be working together to transform health care. No matter what the outcome of the game, I am thankful that I have found something that transcends the rivalry between the schools and have found many peers to share in this journey of transforming medical school and healthcare.
